This series of mixed-media paintings was inspired by a glorious late September day on Inch Beach, County Kerry, Ireland — a place where sea, sand, and mountains come together in a landscape that feels vividly alive. The sun shone, the air was soft and mild, and everything — the light, the vast sky, the sweep of the beach — seemed to pulse with quiet joy and freedom.
I wanted to capture not just how the place looked, but how it felt: expansive, elemental, and full of movement. Each work combines acrylic paint and collage on handmade deckled paper, using layers of texture and colour to echo the shifting light, the rhythm of the waves, and the solidity of the mountains.
The paintings measure 30 cm in height by 22 cm in width and are intended to be mounted without a window mount, allowing the natural, uneven edges of the paper to remain visible — a reminder of the organic materials and the landscape that inspired them.
Beach and Mountains celebrates the meeting of worlds — land and sea, stillness and energy — and the feeling of being utterly present in a place that is both wild and welcoming, remote yet gloriously alive.
